For the most part, your home furnace will chug along merrily and produce enough heat to keep you and your family warm and toasty through the winter. However, it’s not completely infallible. It sometimes may not function properly, and could even break down completely. According to local HVAC installation contractors, one of the more common issues homeowners face when it comes to their furnaces is constant overheating. In today’s post, we list the possible causes for your furnace becoming too hot.
This is the most common reason why your furnace might overheat. When airflow is restricted, the internal components of your furnace will get too hot. Many homeowners forget to change their filter. When the filter becomes too clogged with dust and other contaminants, your furnace has to work harder, and this usually leads to overheating.
Similar to the air filter becoming too dirty, the other internal components of your furnace may also become bogged down with dirt and grime. The coil and blower in particular are especially prone to dust buildup. To prevent this from happening, we recommend that you contact an air conditioning repair contractor to give your unit a good cleaning every three to five years.
Short cycling occurs when your furnace turns on and off too quickly or turns off prematurely right in the middle of a heating cycle. This puts a lot of stress on your furnace motors and may cause them to overheat.
