4 Signs You Need a Dehumidifier

The summer season brings about a lot of moisture that could make the air in your house feel humid, sticky and damp, which could make you feel uncomfortable. In addition to the inconvenience, this could cause health issues and the compromise indoor components of your home, such as the walls or the ceiling. Thankfully, you can get a dehumidifier to solve these problems and more.

4 Signs You Need a Dehumidifier

In today’s post, one of the premier  duct cleaning companies  shares some signs that it’s time for you to get a dehumidifier.

Condensation on Surfaces

Condensation is a classic tell-tale sign that your home is too humid. Condensation occurs when the seasons transition from the cold of winter to the heat of summer. Cold surfaces such as window panes and poorly-insulated walls cause water within warm indoor air to condense and leave marks on surfaces around your home.

Poor Home Ventilation

Summer heat directly impacts your home’s humidity. If your windows easily let in hot outside air, this will elevate your indoor moisture levels. The same goes for drafty doors and vents. Also, if your home is well-insulated, it will hold excess moisture for longer periods of time.

A Damp Basement. If your home has excessively high humidity, it’s often first felt in your basement. Even if you have a properly-functioning HVAC system, it might not be able to reach your basement, which could cause condensation to build up in this area. Most  home heating companies  recommend installng a dehumidifier in your basement to keep moisture levels regulated.

Unusually High Humidity. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the normal range for indoor humidity is around 35 to 50 percent. A relative humidity level of 60 percent or above is considered too high. Not only is excessive humidity extremely uncomfortable–you’ll feel sticky and hot–you’re also at risk of respiratory problems due to mold growth around your home.
