Maintaining Your HVAC System: A Fall Guide

Proper heating and  air conditioning maintenance  is necessary to keep your HVAC system in good working condition. This is especially important as summer ends so you don’t have to deal with any problems while using your system in the fall and winter. As such, Home Air Services has put together a two-month guide to ensure your system runs smoothly:

September

Since September is right between summer and fall, it’s the best time to prepare for the coming change of seasons. First, you’ll need to check your air filter for contaminants and replace it   as needed. It might also be necessary at this time to replace it sooner than the three-month mark to prepare for the change of season.

You’ll also need to inspect your system’s return air grilles and registers and ensure that they haven’t been shut or blocked by anything, which would prevent air from flowing through your HVAC system and compromise its operation. Some air conditioning and  home heating companies  also recommend having your system inspected at this time so that your furnace or other equipment will be properly tuned for optimal performance in the upcoming season.

October

After performing a routine check of your air filter, return air grilles and registers, we recommend that you do a test run of your heating system so you can be sure that it will come on and work properly when needed. It’s not advisable to store flammable items directly next to the furnace, so you’ll have to keep the area around your heating equipment clear of paint, rags, gasoline, solvent and cleaners. You’ll soon notice the temperature slowly dipping to the point that using your heating system becomes necessary, and when the time comes it’s best to be sure your system is prepared for it.
