Understanding HVAC Replacement & Service Quotes

When you receive a quote from an  HVAC company , you shouldn’t treat it as just an ordinary piece of paper. A good homeowner should be able to evaluate a quote properly, as it’s a written agreement between you and the HVAC company, and not fully understanding what you’re getting into could lead to disaster. With that said, here are a few tips that will help you discern exactly what it is you’re signing up for.

What to Look for in a Written Quote

For a better understanding of any quote, you should know exactly what it is you’re looking for. Most people are only concerned with the final price, but it can be argued that the details matter just as much.

Don’t just focus on the price. When evaluating quotes from HVAC installation contractors, don’t be guided by price alone. Naturally, you’ll be drawn to the lowest bid, especially if you’re dealing with more than one contractor. However, a higher quote from a different company may actually the better value.

Consider the brand. If you’re replacing your entire system, the brand makes a difference, and can have a huge impact on the overall cost. Remember, not all HVAC units are created equal, so if you’re being quoted for a high-end unit, your contractor may charge you a lot more.

Factor in labor costs.  The number of people that will be working on the project as well as the length of time it takes to complete the work also matters, so make sure that the labor costs are indicated in the quote. Finally, take a look at the warranties on offer. Some companies will extend additional guarantees from them, which could also drive up the price.
