3 Water Heater Mistakes That Are Costing You Money

A water heater is an essential feature of a warm, comfortable home. It provides a continuous supply of heated water to taps and plumbing fixtures around your house. Failing to use your water heating device correctly will not only lead to inefficient performance but will also cause your energy bills to increase over time. Of course, nobody wants to spend extra money on something that’s totally preventable. In this blog, one of the leading  duct cleaning companies  shares three costly water heater mistakes:

Setting your water temperature too high.  This is one of the most common water heater mistakes that a lot of people commit. When you set the temperature higher than required, you’re practically asking your device to consume more energy in order to heat up your water. It can also raise pressure inside the tank to dangerous levels, causing leaks that are very expensive to fix. Any temperature over 120° F is usually too high for most households.

Ignoring loud popping sounds.  Professional  home heating companies  will attest to the fact that loud popping or banging noises coming from your water heater aren’t something to be ignored. Those sounds usually mean that there’s severe sediment buildup inside the tank, causing little pockets of water to get trapped between the water heater burners and the sediment. This creates steam bubbles that can erupt violently and create loud noises. In addition, the sediment buildup forces your water heating device to work twice as hard in order to produce the same amount of heat.

Not scheduling annual maintenance.  Like other HVAC devices, your water heater’s efficiency will decrease if you fail to have it serviced at least once a year. It’s just a matter of time before it succumbs to its worn-out and corroded parts. This could mean that you need to replace your water heater earlier than expected, making you spend more money over time.
